Fiction Reviews: Charles (Shirley Jackson)




 "Charles" is a short story written by Shirley Jackson; it narrates the story of a child who went for the first time at kindergarten.

His mother Mrs. Hyman is conscious that his beloved son will become independent.

When Laurie Hyman comes back from kindergarten and is hostile toward his family, 

He replies to his father with an arrogant and annoyed tone.

Then he introduces his friend Charles in a constant conflict with the class and his teacher.

Due to his bad behaviour, the class was forced to stay in class after the bell rang.

During a school day, he becomes the helper of the teacher, he obtains a sort of immunity, he forces a girl to pronounce a bad word.

Mrs. Hyman wants to speak to the teacher, she will remain surprised about the reply of the teacher.
