An Introduction to Christian and Muslim Relations
Is Bennett right to claim that "progress" for the confrontational approach means the conversion of the Other? What issues have dominated the agenda of Christian-Muslim relations for those who employ polemic and what, apart from converting the Other, might be identified as progress.
In this essay I will argue that the locution “progress” can be interpreted in different ways, one of them which is supported by Bennett i.e. “the conversion of other” for instance the creation of a possible dialogue and most importantly a shared conscience that the interpretation of the scriptures by humans could be fallible; in other words we should accept that our religion is not infallible and unique. A central point for a continuous “progress” towards the acceptance and respect of the other creed is those of a clear distinction between faith and heresy.
