The Ice Palace (Tarjei Vesaas)

Here the nature is able to model the ice in a myriad of different shapes a monument to solitude.
"A hard frost in late autumn, stars but no moon and no snow to give a glimmer of light. So the darkness was thick, in spite of the stars. On each side was the forest, deathly still, with everything that might be alive shivering in there at that moment" (The Ice Palace - Tarjei Varsaas p.7)

In my opinion "The Ice Palace" is a synonymous of the Adult World because we do not listen carefully to their needs, our senses are frozen by our selfishness and the victim is an orphan girl named Unn, of 11 years old.
We will never know her secret because being adults/readers we pretend that she must think like us, we think that her problem is certainly superficial childish and so on.

Another interpretation of "The Ice Palace" is to consider it as a frozen world under a dome, were does not exist brutality nor ugly times, here everyone knows each other and at the centre of the society there is the person.
In my opinion "The Fiction of Relationship" is to consider the progress under a negative point of view and trying to put some limits to the progress which is based exclusively on appearance rather than fair and mutuality.
Siss is a girl of 11 years old, she lives in a remote village in Norway, she lives a normal life until the arrival of Unn.
Unn lives with her aunt after the death of her unmarried mother.
We do not know nothing about the reasons of her death like the secret between Unn and Siss, but in my opinion her mother is at the centre of this secret and in particular when Unn show to Siss a picture from the family album of her father.
The day after Unn decide to go to the Ice Palace alone and without the opinion of her aunt, unfortunately she will die of hypothermia and her last word was "Siss" in my opinion the only human being capable of understand and resolve her problems, because Siss in not an adult.
