Mr. Halloran Beresford is a clerk, he works for a company in New York City, it's Friday, he decides to go to a candy shop to buy a present for his wife, it's her birthday.

He has bought a large box of sweets, on his way home meets a man in the light hat.

It begins a strange pursuit, Mr. Beresford hurries to catch the means of transport that will take him home, he feels threatened by this man, he thinks he has done something wrong, he feels increasingly hunted down and decides to take the hated subway, then he will take a cab, once at home, his wife is preoccupied for him, he looks strange. 

He tells her that everything is okay, then his wife will make a strange call.
