Painting Review: Above The City (Marc Chagall)
1918
Oil On Canvas
Marc Chagall (1887 –1985) Russian French Painter, Cubism, Expressionism.
National Gallery Tretyakov, Moscow
Description
The theme of this painting is the flight of two people in love who are flying above Witebesk the place where Marc Chagall was born. They are flying toward the infinite, a never-ending voyage without the force of gravity, who imprisoned humanity to live according to their own physical laws. This is a true escape, a love escape, but above all from everyday life.
