Literary Criticism Charles (Shirley Jackson)

 

This short story is set somewhere in the United States.

The main characters are: Charles, he doesn't have a surname.

Mr. and Mrs. Hyman are the parents of Laurie Hyman, he is a child ready to go for the first time to kindergarten. 

It is clear that Laurie is becoming independent now he behaves in a bad way toward his parents, especially to Mr. Hyman.

He has a close friend Charles who is a bully but capable of fooling his teacher.

The most engaging part of this short story is when Mrs. Hyman discovers that Charles has never been to the kindergarten.
