Fiction Reviews: The Witch (Shirley Jackson)
Inside a train carriage there are two childrens, one is close to the window, he describes what he sees to his mother who is reading a book, his baby sister is tied to the train seat to prevent her from slipping and hurting herself.
The boy believes to have seen a witch outside the window train, he tells his mother that the witch wants to eat him, the woman continues to read her book.
An old man with white hair and dressed in blue enters the carriage with a cigar in his hand, he sits close to the baby boy, starting to talk initially with a joking tone.
Then confesses to the child that he killed his daughter in a terrible way.
Between the old man and the baby boy a macabre alliance is created. The man leaves and the child looks out the window again.
Then he will say to his mother if the old man was a witch.
