Aubrey is a young and rich boy who is fascinated by Lord Ruthven. During a trip around Europe Aubrey will discover that this man is diabolic, he is able to manipulate everyone.
Aubrey ignores that the main purpose of Lord Ruthven is to corrupt the virtuous, that people who care about the others, that are reluctant to judge the other people.
For this reason Aubrey decides to travel alone.
Once in Greece he falls in love with a local girl named Lanthe.
This girl entertains Aubrey with a story regarding the vampires.
Her description is very close to the behavior of Lord Ruthven, for unknown reason Lanthe is killed by a vampire, probably Lord Ruthven.
Aubrey escapes from a deadly attack by the vampire.
Aubrey believes that he was mortally wounded by the vampire,Lord Ruthven saves him, but he must promise that he won't "Not speak about the death of Lord Ruthven nor for his secrets for a year and a day."
Lord Ruthven and Aubrey are in London.
Aubrey's beloved sister falls in love with the Earl Of Marsden, Aubrey knows his very identity, he is Lord Ruthven.
Aubrey cannot break his solemn oath, he is devastated by the fact that Lord Rutven has done his devil design.
