Catherine Morland is a pretty girl of 17 years old, his father is a clergyman, her mother is Mrs. Morland.
They lived in the countryside for many years. 
Her life changes when Mr. and Mrs. Allen They suggest a trip to Bath.

Good and bad persons and a handsome man Henry Tilney, his sister Eleanor, his father General Tilney and his brother captain Tilney.
Catherine is a reader addicted to Gothic novels, she find the history boring she talks about it with her friend Isabelle Thorpe and her brother John Thorpe.
Isabella is a faux friend, she doesn't care for Catherine but for her brother James Morland.
One day she receives a wonderful notice, she has been invited by General Tilney to stay for a while at Northanger Abbey.
Her fervid imagination explodes; she imagines this abbey as a sinister place with secret rooms, dark corridors, murders.
During a night She is chased away by General Tilney, she thinks that the reason was to furtively visit the room where Mrs. Tilney died, but later she will discover the reality that she was the victim of a misunderstanding.
She is forced to come back home. She is unhappy thinking about the reasons for her expulsion.
She will marry Henry Tilney in poverty.
