InterActiveNovels: The Pit And The Pendulum
The scent of the candles mingled with that of the incense and a feeble Gregorian choir accompanied by an organ. I looked around but there was no one there, it was definitely a hallucination by an invisible magician.
Thanks to the obscurity the three monks didn't see me, For my safety I had to hide as quickly as possible. I opted to go inside the closet where the two-meter-tall candles were placed which gave off a very pleasant smell mixed with that of well-made wood.
Once inside the closet I closed the doors and looked out through the keyhole.
I noticed that to open and close the wardrobe they used a very large key, consequently the lock where the key is inserted to open it was very large to the point of having a wide view of the scene.
At some point the organ and the monks remained silent for a few minutes, they were not tired but they were blessing the instruments of martyrdom, I did not see the cross but the crown of thorns, three nails, a very high lance and a sponge, a plate with a few pieces of meat and a bowl of vinegar with the purpose to quench and feed the mysterious man
.
Thanks to the mechanical movement of the pendulum I could count the seconds but then it all ended and the candles started to melt because of the excessive heat, I couldn't get out of there otherwise I would have been killed by the monks and I didn't want to be burned to death, I wasn't able to count my last seconds before burning with the candles and the wardrobe.
Then I saw the French army and the general Lasalle who saved the life of the unknown man.
Everything stopped. I heard the voice of the unknown man who asked the general how they reached the prison so fast, considering that there is a labyrinth to follow and then there are several reinforced wooden doors with iron bars .
Candidly the general told to the man "It's the divine providence
